Hope-N-Mic In Orange County

June 24th, 2009

We are starting up our first monthly open mic for Christian musicians and their friends at The Honest Lawyer on the evening of Saturday, July 18th starting at 7:00 p.m. and going until 10:00 p.m.  Called Hope-N-Mic, Orange County, this open mic evening will be held every second Saturday of the month beginning August 2009.

The ProducerAurora Dawn Harris will be the producer for the evening and Robert - that’d be me - will be acting mc / host.  All genre of Christian and secular music are welcome provided the lyrics are not offensive.

The Honest Lawyer will be providing free snacks, coffee and soda and a safe place to have fun and jam with strange - some very strange - new friends in an alcohol free environment.  You can offer your CD’s for sale !

We plan to post performer’s photos and music - with permission - on our media gallery.  You can check out the original Newhall Hope-N-Mic gallery at http://media.hope-n-mic.com/.  If you show up you could have the opportunity to play with some LA area performers.

While it isn’t necessary to sign up it will help us to know how many are coming, and you could get a better time slot more to your liking, if you are a performer.  To contact us, email rora@hope-n-mic.com or contact me at orangecounty@hope-n-mic.com or on my cell at 661 753-7862.

You may recall that The Honest Lawyer previously hosted many fun Christian Singles Coffee Club meetings.  More information can be found at: http://www.thehonestlawyeronline.com/.

We hope to make music with people from different churches and belief systems and have a lot of fun kicking back in a comfortable old fashioned barrister’s salon listing to music and socializing.  Please come and tell your friends to come !

P.S.  We have a piano and PA, mics, a guitar and a bass guitar amplifier and are working on congas / drums although we do not have any percussion available at this time so bring your tambourine, cajon or drum kit if you want to pound the skins.

I’m Running Out Of Adjectives !

June 15th, 2009

We had another exceptional Hope-N-Mic evening on June 11th with the friends we have come to know so well over the past year.

We had between 30 and 35 people attend , it was a great evening and every person / ensemble got to do what they wanted and had 15 to 20 minutes to perform.  We had the opportunity to enjoy some new songs and, in addition to a number of regulars, we had about 12 newcomers.  Thanks for coming !!

Angela, a lovely girl who joined the choir recently, brought a CD and sang one of her favourite songs.  Well done Angela.

I’ll soon be working on the audio and posting more on the gallery for you to listen to.  We have a lot of photos ready too and i’ll try and get them uploaded in the next couple of days.

Don’t forget, July 25th will be the first annual summer Hope-N-Mic free concert and barbecue.  We have four great performers lined up, including the NewNaz youth band !

Free Summer Concert & Barbecue

June Hope-N-Mic & July FREE Concert !

June 9th, 2009

The June Hope-N-Mic is this Thursday - the 11th of June.  We are expecting a good turnout again and look forward to seeing everyone there.

Next month, July, we have a conflict on the second Thursday of the month with VBS (vacation bible school) so we rescheduled to Saturday the 25th July and decided to have a concert instead of the regular open mic format.

Our plan for the July evening is to start with a barbecue in the parking lot at 6:30 p.m. with music to be provided by our youth band - the youth band isn’t confirmed yet, we may need to break some heads ;)

The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. with Bill McGarry playing some classical and jazz guitar.  Bill is an excellent guitar player and hosts and open mic at the Left Coast Wine Bar in Glendale on Sunday evenings.

At 8:00 p.m. Test Of Faith will play for half an hour.  They are an excellent band with some original music that started coming to Hope-N-Mic from Frazier Park in late 2007.

At 8:30 we will have a 10 minute intermission to allow The Rudy Benavidez Band to setup.  We went out to see them in Rancho Cucamunga and they sounded great !  You can learn more about them and listen to some of their music at http://www.bandmix.com/Rudy-Benavidez.

The evening is completely free !  There is no need to notify us that you will be coming, just show up, however if you do send us an email to let us know how many are likely to attend it will help.  Please send your notification email to concert@hope-n-mic.com.

Mailing List Manager

June 9th, 2009

We have now implemented a mailing list manager.  What does this mean to you ?

Well, for one it means that you can subscribe your friends so that they will get notifications and reminders about when the next Hope-N-Mic event will take place.  They will have to confirm that they want to receive the notifications - if you subscribe them.  Or you can just send them this link (http://www.hope-n-mic.com/lists/?p=subscribe&id=1) and they can subscribe themselves.  Right now it doesn’t look pretty perhaps but it works.

We will no longer be sending out general emails, only to those on our lists.  This in the hopes that only people who actually want to know about Hope-N-Mic will receive the emails.

Note also that you can subscribe to an RSS feed to be notified when we make posts on the blog.
