Weird, man, but then this is the loose nut West Coast over here in LA, if ever there was a place where strange people gather. The Tin Foil Hat party was a great success and, in the tradition of – a picture tells a thousand words – the best I can do is to post a gallery of the photos. Thanks to all our friends for engaging in this little exercise with such gusto !

Oh yes, the music was great, as was the food !

Next Hope-N-Mic Open Mic Night August 11th

Summer has been eventful as usual. This summer has been much busier than last as I find myself trying to work in time to play with my friend Erik of the Erik Anders Band and also part of a great classic rock band with awesome musicians and great people Tim Pinch of Tim Pinch Recording, Tim Baker of The Guitar Center and Robert Pierce. You can read more about our band at The Convictions web site. The Convictions recently played Vincenzo’s Pizza and, before that, The Newhall Classic Car show – what a blast that was, literally, with the wind blowing over a 50lb speaker on top of Dave Pierce, the fearless harmonica player !

If you haven’t seen or heard Erik yet, go to his web site at http://www.erikandersmusic.com/ or just go out and see him playing at Suzys Bar and Grill in Hermosa beach. He plays there most Tuesday nights but his next big gig is this coming Friday, July 29th when he will be joined by another excellent guitarist and friend, George Steele. Erik and I played Lulu’s Beehive in Studio City for Bryan Chan (Delta Blues Guitarist extraordinaire) a couple of weeks back. Wow, that was too cool.

As if that weren’t enough, I also sat in with Tom Lamog of fahrfrumgruven.west fame (check him out on reverbnation.com). We played a couple of tunes up at It’s A Grind in Castaic. Also part of the band that evening were Dave Fry, Arden and Ron Juarez.

Aurora and I had a great July 4th party for all the Hope-N-Mic plus participants. Over 85 people attended this year although we missed some of our good friends from Glendale and points South.

We are seeing a few new faces at Hope-N-Mic these days which is always a treat so please come and enjoy the show. We provide snacks and sodas as always and don’t feel you must perform, just come and relax and enjoy the music along with so many others.

Cinco De Mayo Was A Blast

Ok, it was also hard work setting up and breaking down. Before we get to a few photos of the event let me express our gratitude to all of those that helped us setup and breakdown the booth(s).

Robert Pierce, Kara, David Pierce, Don Miller, Sue and Dustin Gordon…I am sure there were others but my mind has now drawn a blank.

We had great entertainment provided by Trish Lester, David Jicha, Breanne Davis, David Pierce, Erik Anders, Tom Lamog & Ron, Robert Pierce, Abel and others. Linda Valdes’ son Josh opened the evening by singing the National Anthem on the main stage !

What a day. The pictures are worth a thousand words, so I will just let you review them here.

Hope-N-Mic Tonight

Yep, it’s true. Tonight we are doing Hope-N-Mic as usual even though we were at the Cinco De Mayo celebrations in downtown Newhall last week. We had such a blast. So many great people came by to visit, some to sing, some to play, some to say hi.

We hope you’ll come out with your friends this evening. It promises to be another great evening of entertainment, fellowship and snacks !

Cinco De Mayo at Old Towne Newhall

Yes, it is true. We will be at the Cinco De Mayo celebration that will take place May 5th in downtown Newhall. We will have a number of friends attending to sing you some songs, play some music and generally entertain.

We will have treats for the kids and information for you about the Hope-N-Mic night event. Please come by and see us, you will have a great time !

April Hope-N-Mic Is Coming

Our Hope-N-Mic event for April will be on Thursday the 14th, which is the second Thursday of the month.

I happen to know that there are some wonderful performers coming. This is a great opportunity for you to meet some excellent musicians and hang out with the best audience in Santa Clarita !

Who knows, maybe you will find a songwriting partner, or a team with whom to build a new band.

As always, we will have snacks and drinks available. We start as close to 7:00 p.m. as possible and go to 10:00 p.m.. Ask anyone who has been, it is a great, fun, evening.

I have managed to at least get this new site functioning. While I have saved all of the previous photos, many of which are also at http://media.hope-n-mic.com/ (and many more), and I could save the posts, I don’t see the reward for saving the posts. So I apologize, all of that wonderful old prose is toast !

But, onward and upward and we are looking forward to a great 2011 and I plan to keep better backups of the site in the future.

I accidentally erased the web site !

I was in the process of posting that our February event is going to be held on the THIRD Thursday of February – sorry, conflict issues – and I decided to do a web site code update and I had not made a backup of the database. Wouldn’t you know it !

Anyway, I’ll be reposting information as soon as possible.

In the mean time, please note that February Hope-N-Mic is to be held on the 17th February, third Thursday of the month.
